The Wait Continues But Arsenal Were Lucky

Arsene Wenger wait to gain the upper hand over arguably his fiercest rival in football Jose Mourinho continued as his side could only salvaged a draw at Old Trafford. Arsenal went into the game on the back of 16 unbeaten matches in all competitions and Man United were about to end that run before substitute Olivier Giroud scored a late equalizer that extended it.

The Gunners would count themselves lucky after a display devoid of creativity and attack that saw them managed just a shot on target in the entire match as against Man Utd’s five. Had it been United converted two or three of those chances they would have won the match but thanks to the brilliancy of Petr Cech also who denied Juan Mata once and Anthony Martial twice to keep his side in the game when the scoreline was at 0-0.

He could however provide no answer for Mata’s effort in the 68th minute as the Spaniard put United ahead before substitutes Alex Oxlade-chamberlain and Giroud combined in the 89th minute to ensure that the Gunners left Old Trafford with their unbeaten run intact.

As expected Wenger looked the happier of the two managers while Mourinho was left frustrated after the match after another chance to secure three points went begging like in the matches against Stoke and Burnley where they were dominant but could earn a draw.

This draw added to the set back already suffered by United in their title bid and to secure a top four finish can even be an herculean task. They have secured just two points against teams in the top four. They lack the cutting edge in the final third and this has been affecting their delivery upfront.
