The Premier League earned its reputation of being the most watched football league in the world because the fierceness of the competition can’t be compared to any other. The league is home to the big names of the game and every player aspires to be a part of the league. There is always something to excite the fans in Premier League; a perfect example is Leicester’s win last season.
Things are working in Chelsea’s favor this season as they are now sit at the top of the table and the likes of Spurs, City and Liverpool close by. The only saddening part of it is the clubs that would be going on relegation but it also goes to show how strong the competition is.
With that, there are some teams that have been sorely disappointing this season. They were looked up to for quality plays due to the caliber of players in their team. The 3 clubs are:
Leicester are sitting on their hands this season. They claimed the title glory last campaign after having an outstanding performance. The Foxes had quality players like Vardy, Mahrez and Kante who helped them achieve their first Premier League title but they have thus far lost their prestige as they are just 3 points out of relegation zone.
Ranieri was axed and former assistant coach Craig Shakespeare was instated as a temporary coach and he seems to be doing a good job as the Foxes now have back their competitive spirit. Their 2-1 triumph over Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 attest to the fact they have renewed vitality. The Foxes need to take their new found form to Premier League to avoid relegation and they might as well surprise all if they go back to their old winning ways.
The Swans have been failing miserably this season, but have recently performed a bit better than they did at the beginning of the season following the emergence of Paul Clement as the club manager. Clement signed some new players in January and they have helped push Swansea out of the relegation zone but they are still in danger of being relegated. With the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fernando Llorente, Leroy Fer and Ki-Seung Yung at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea have fallen short of expectation. The January signings have motivated them to give it their all to avoid relegation come season end.
Christian Benteke’s move to Selhurst Park was meant to induce a change in them and build them into a top 8 club, but such is not the case as they now occupy the 16th position on the table. Former manager Alan Pardew took the club on a downward slope before he was dropped in favor of Sam Allardyce. Although Sam started on a slow note , he’s begun to show he is better than his predecessor. The Eagles’ recent hat-trick win boosted their morale and made them thirst for more of such.
Wilfried Zaha has performed excellently this season, but the problem lies with the club generally. Palace would have to go the extra mile if they hope to avoid the drop, which would be devastating considering their previous success in the Premier League. The likes of Cabaye, Benteke and Townsend need to take charge and help Sam accomplish his goal.
