This Saturday Manchester United will face with Burnley at Turf Moor. The last time the two teams met, it ended in a draw. Comparing the two teams after that match, the odds look heavily in the favor of the Red Devils. Burnley lost three matches in a row, while United won all their three matches of 2018.
Jose Mourinho will be roaring to level scores with the Clarets after their last disappointing draw at Old Trafford. Scoring within just three minutes of the play, Burnley dominated the initial half with 2-0 the last time. And though the second half efforts of the United players were commendable, ultimately they had to make do with the 2-2 draw.
Jesse Lingard, the substitute player, made a great impression in that match. The Burnley defense looked powerless in front of the brilliance of Lingard. With two goals, he cemented his position in Mourinho’s lineup along with saving his team from complete humiliation.
Recently, Lingard has moved up in the good graces of Jose Mourinho. In the last ten Premier League matches, the England international has been featured in nine of them. And he has not disappointed, scoring seven goals in that span.
While talking about the United team on the whole, the last three matches have seen the form returning to the team. In the match against Stoke City, Mourinho’s side made it look extremely easy for them. Returning from injury, Antonio Valencia gave United the lead in the 9th minute of the game. Then Anthony Martial added another in the same half followed by Romelu Lukaku’s goal in the second half.
In that match, we got a glimpse of Paul Pogba’s spectacular display in the midfield whose presence or absence easily shows in the performance of the United team. Surprisingly, United have not lost in any of the previous 35 matches of the Premier League in which Pogba was featured. It just shows the huge importance of Pogba for the team. No surprises then the team faltered during his injury and the 3-match suspension.
While on the other hand, Sean Dyche’s side seems to be struggling at the moment. They are win-less in the previous seven matches and have suffered three losses in a row. Although they looked impressive during the start of the season, yet that early good form has long evaporated now. Still their seventh position in the Premier League table seems pretty good considering their performance in the last season.
United have moved a little closer towards City after their defeat at Anfield. With Liverpool and Chelsea just three points behind United, it looks like the Red Devils have very tough competition for the second spot. This win at Turf Moor is essential for Mourinho with the Spurs match on the horizon.
