Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has dropped a major transfer hint that he could potentially offload midfielder Scott Allan in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Hibernian after spending the first half of the season with Dundee.
The ex-Scotland under-21 international joined Celtic from Hibs in 2015, but has since been sent out on three different loan spells and has registered just 17 appearances across all competitions for Celtic.
Rodgers has made it clear that Ryan Christie, who is also on loan at Aberdeen, will not be up for sale in the summer, but has now confirmed that Allan’s future with Celtic is not the same as Christie’s. He also suggested that Allan may still want a future with another club.
The Northern Irish boss as quoted by The Daily Record:
“I watched the Rangers-Hibs game and he did really well.”
“Sometimes players are just suited to a club and Scott just looks right at Hibs when I see him play.
“He’s a great boy, I’ve never had an issue with him. He was at a stage in his life where he just wanted to play.
“When I came in here I had a real good summer working with him, but he’s had a few ups and downs and it was really a case of going to play somewhere else and that’s still the case.
“He’s a great boy with a lot of qualities but it’s a different scenario to Ryan’s.”
Across all competitions this season, Allan has registered 26 appearances, netting one goal and supplied good 11 assists for his current side.
Scott Allan’s move to Celtic was always a controversial one. Allan’s is a boyhood Rangers fan and it seemed that the club only signed him to stop their arch-rivals from winning the race to his signature. It’s now best for all sides if the central midfielder ship out of the cub for at the end of the season.
Allan is clearly a player who can perform well at another Scottish Premiership side so it would make a lot a sense if Hibs can make his move permanent at the club. He is yet to settle down anywhere in his careers with him playing for as many clubs in his career as he has goals. It’s time for him to finally do that with his next move.
