Celtic and Premier League side AFC Bournemouth are locked in a two-way battle for Dundee defender Jack Hendry after Glasgow Rangers dropped out of the race, according to reports.
Hendry has been in big demand during this January transfer window with the likes of Rangers, West Ham United and Crystal Palace all reported to be showing interest in the central defender.
However, one of Football Weeks sources have revealed that Celtic and Bournemouth are now the two frontrunners looking to sign the 22-year-old before the transfer window get shut.
The Scottish champions have made enquries for him with Brendan Rodgers reported to be a long-time admirer of the classy central defender, while the source explained that the Gers are now unlikely to pursue their interest having brought in four new signings in the shape of Russell Martin, Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings already this month and doesn’t look there will be any cash left with Sveco to meet with Dundee’s £1.5million asking price for their prized asset.
Bournemouth have informed Hendry’s side of their interest to lure the player back to England and are hope a move would materialise before 31 January.
Hendry has impressed for Dundee this season and his performance against the Bhoys and Rangers this season brought him to the attention of both Old Firm rivals.
Dundee boss Neil McCann is keen to keep Hendry at Dens Park at least until the end of the season, but will reluctantly sell him if either Celtic or Bournemouth meet their £1.5million asking price.
