Newcastle United are in the race for Sheffield United attacker David Brooks, according to the Daily Mirror.
The British newspaper claims the Toons, Arsenal and West Ham United have been monitoring the performance of the 20-year-old attacker.
It is understood that Premier League rivals Liverpool are leading the race in the pursuit of the attacker and that the Reds are planning a £10million bid in the January transfer window.
The report from the British tabloid details that Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder wants to keep his rising star and doesn’t want him to leave Bramall Lane when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Brooks is a left-footed attacker that usually plays behind the striker – No. 10 – and is technically gifted.
He earned a call-up to Wales’ senior team during the international break and a first appearance is expected to be just around the corner.
Newcastle United could certainly do with some extra firepower in the final third and Brooks is an exciting emerging starlet.
The attacking midfielder is very skillful with an eye for goal and posses a dangerous left foot. He has broken into Chris Wilder’s team out of nowhere this season and played an important role in helping Sheffield United move to third in the Championship table.
The 20-year-old has already registered three assists across 12 appearances in all competitions and is making a seamless step up to senior level.
However, Rafael Benitez’s side would be taking a huge risk if they considered rivaling Liverpool’s imminent £10million offer as the attacker is still at a very early stage of his development.
Newcastle look set to stand by the likes of Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu in their squad this season, with a deal for Brooks unlikely.
Sheffield are certain that their playmaker will stay with the club for at least this season and they will not want to let any club hijack him given their form.
However, should the Championship be open to selling the Brooks, Liverpool would be the most likely Premier League club he might join and to reject £10million for a player that only has 16 senior appearances for them may be difficult.
