Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille are in poll position to land Celtic star striker Moussa Dembele this summer for what would be a record fee received by Celtic. The France youngster was in scintillating form for the club last season, which has raised huge interest from Europe’s top elite clubs.
Celtic were able to sign Dembele from Fulham back in the summer of 2016 where in had scored 17 times in 46 appearances for the Cottagers in all competitions for just £400,000. Now, Europe’s elite are showing interest in the 21-year-old following his 32 goal haul last season.
Dembele was rumoured to be closing in on a move to Premier League side Crystal Palace on deadline day in January, but a transfer never materialized. Today, Marseille appear confident of signing him in a £20 million deal.
According to Sky Sports, the tabloid reports that the opportunity for Dembele to return to his homeland will see Marseille – who are priced at 9/2 odds by Paddy Power to – beat the likes of Palace, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, along with a host of Premier League clubs, to the Frenchman’s signature.
Whilst the Scottish champions are reluctant to see their star striker leave, the club acknowledge that his departure is likely. The Bhoys’ gaffer Brendan Rodgers insists on his stance that the 21-year-old will remain with the club amid strong interest while revealing Celtic have received an offer for Moussa Dembele, but will not allow the forward leave.
Whether or not Dembele would be sold this summer remains to be seen. His exit would be a huge loss for the Glasgow giants, but a £20 million cheque would allow them to strengthen considerably as they look to be more competitive in Europe.
