Manchester United in talks with midfielder over a new deal

Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini is reportedly set for more contract negotiations with Manchester United.

Fellaini’s current deal with the Red Devils is due to expire at the end of the season, but manager Jose Mourinho is seemingly desperate to prolong the midfielder’s stay.

According to The Times, United have placed a one-year deal on the table, with the option of a 12-month extension. However, the 30-year-old wants to negotiate a fresh two-year deal that would see him earn £100,000-a-week.

Fellaini has been linked with the likes of Besiktas and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, but he’s still an asset to United, as shown by his goalscoring cameo against Arsenal on Sunday, April 29.

Mourinho brought the Belgian on against the Gunners as he boasts a superior aerial threat, and he managed to repay his manager’s faith by winning the game at the death, grabbing the club’s crest as he celebrated.

According to Jose, United are close to reaching an agreement, which would see chief executive Ed Woodword breaking away from their contractual policy on experienced players – no player aged 30 or above gets more than a year’s extension.

If the Red Devils can’t come to an agreement with Fellaini, they risk losing him for free this summer, so they may have to end their policy to ensure he extends his stay at Old Trafford.

The midfielder offers an imminent threat in the box with his strong heading ability, and his presence has encouraged United’s use of the long-ball approach to great success at times.
