Manchester United ended their Premier League season with 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday.
It was a close game with very few scoring opportunities, but Marcus Rashford was able to score the winner in the 34th minute thanks to vintage pass from Michael Carrick in the build up.
Carrick already announced he would be retiring at the end of the season and the ex-England international marked his final Old Trafford appearance with an impressive performance.
Right from the off, the 36-year-old was pulling the strings in the middle of the park and played his part in the winning goal with a vintage long-range ball to Juan Mata, who unselfishly set-up Rashford to score.
Carrick was named Man of the Match in his final appearance for the Red Devils
In Romelu Lukaku absence, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, and Marcus Rashford were given the nod in attack by Jose Mourinho, but the trio struggled to impress against Watford.
Aside from scoring the winner, Rashford’s performance was disappointing, owing to his poor decision-making in good positions.
Lukaku is expected to return to training on Tuesday after recovering from his ankle injury, which will be a timely boost for United ahead of their FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 19.
Watford have had 14 different managers in the last 10 years and have made it a habit of axing their head coaches after just one season – Slaviša Jokanović (October 2014 – June 2015), Quique Sánchez Flores (June 2015 – May 2016), Walter Mazzarri (July 2016 – May 2017), Marco Silva (May 2017 – January 2018)
After Marco Silva was sacked, his successor Javi Gracia guided the Hornets to 14th in the Premier League, but question marks remain over his future this summer.
Gracia says he’s still planning for next season regardless, but time will tell if Watford keep him at the helm for a full campaign.
