Celtic’s on-loan goalkeeper Scott Bain says he wants to stay at Parkhead past this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, reports The S*n.
The 26-year-old joined the Hoops on loan from Dundee in January and has made four appearances but has made a big impact already. Premier League side Stoke City are monitoring his progress but look set to miss out as the man between the sticks appears happy to stay in Scotland.
Bain made 124 appearances in all competitions for Dundee before joining Celtic and will be a free transfer in the coming months. He said his representatives are in talks with the Hoops’ and hopes his loan spell can become permanent.
Brendan Rodgers has Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries as goalkeeper options, but the latter turns 38 in December and is out of contract next year. He’s been criticised for poor form and is only a reserve option when Gordon is out.
As for the Scotland international, he may need an adequate second-choice stopper if de Vries leaves the club this summer. Bain impressed in his handful of appearances and made it clear to his manager that he wants to stay at Celtic.
He said:
“I’ve had a chat with the manager and told him I want to stay at Celtic. He’s keen for me to be here and I’m hopeful that I will be at this great club for years to come.
“It’s all sinking in now that I am a Celtic player. I’m loving it and enjoying myself every day. Football is all about moments and timing. Earlier in the season, I could never have expected this.”
