Everton transfer chief tracking Norwich City’s midfielder James Maddison

Everton are reportedly keeping close watch on Norwich City midfielder James Maddison.

Sports outlet ESPN claims that the Toffees’ director of football Steve Walsh was in attendance to watch the Norwich midfielder performances against Bolton Wanderers on the weekend. The Canaries eventually lost 2-1 to Bolton.

However, the outlets claims the Championship side are desperate to keep hold of the 20-year-old midfielder and they are confident Maddison will stay at Carrow Road.

James Maddison good move for Everton?

Everton appear to be concentrating on paving way for potential future stars to their first-team squad instead of experienced individuals.

After a successful loan spell with Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen where Maddison impressed with his superb performance, he has been given the opportunity to prove himself at Norwich, and the midfielder has certainly made the most of it.

He appeared to be a cut above the rest in Scotland last season, netting two goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.

The Englishman has continued to provide an attacking outlet from the middle of the park this season, contributing with four goals and creating five assists for Norwich so far.

In fact, Josh Murphy and Nelson Olivera are the only other Norwich stars to score more than him across all competitions this campaign.

Maddison might be a shrewd decision for Everton giving him the chance to progress in the Championship before making a move for him.

With the report from ESPN detailing that Everton’s transfer Chief Walsh watched the youngster on the weekend, there is high probability that the Merseyside might consider tabling an offer when the transfer window opens in January.

The Toffees has a reputation for give youngsters the chance to test themselves in the first-team and despite their poor start to the season, any player would be desperate to ply their trade at Goodison Park.

However, with James Maddison’s current at Carrow Road expiring in four years, Everton must prepare to spend a lot of money to bring him to Goodison Park in January.
