Chelsea Held By Resilient Burnley

Chelsea dropped two points as they were held to a draw by a resilient Burnley at Turf Moor. The Blues missed the chance to move 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League as Robbie Brady’s stunning free-kick cancelled Pedro early opener to earn them a 1-1 draw.

With Tottenham losing 2-0 at Liverpool on Saturday, Antonio Conte’s side has the chance to extend their lead but was pegged back by a solid defence from Burnley who limited them to just two shots –which both came in the first half- in the whole match.

The Turf Moor has become a fortress for Burnley and has garnered 29 points from a possible 30 points this season and had won all four of their previous homes games without conceding.

The Blues dominated possession and it paid off as they took an early lead via Pedro’s effort in the seventh minute but Robbie Brady equalised with a stunning free-kick17 minutes later.

The Clarets had chances to win the game, with Matt Lowton and Andre Gray missing good opportunities. Despite the draw, Chelsea are now 10 points ahead of both Arsenal and Spurs, however, Manchester City can close the gap to eight points if they defeat Bournemouth on Monday.

The draw means it was only the second time all season Chelsea have dropped points against a side outside the top six and Diego Costa has now failed to score in three consecutive Premier League appearances for the first time since April-May 2016.
