Brendan Rodgers has turned things around at Celtic since his arrived in May 2016. The ex-Liverpool manager won a domestic treble in his first season at Parkhead and set a new British record for unbeaten domestic matches (69).
He’s close to sealing another domestic treble in only his second season at Celtic, which would be an historic and great achievement. That being said, Rodgers still has one record to improve and that is the Hoops’ spending in the transfer market.
Since replacing Ronny Deila, the only two signings who would go down as good acquisitions are Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.
The former joined Celtic from Fulham and has netted 32 goals so far. Sinclair bagged the Scottish Player of the Year last season and is the club’s top scorer this campaign.
Another player who did well for a brief spell was Kolo Toure who is now the club’s technical assistant after retiring in September 2017. Apart from the trio, there are questions marks over the rest of Rodgers’ signings
Players such as Cristian Gamboa and Dorus de Vries are surplus to requirements. Marvin Compper and Charly Musonda have hardly featured either.
As for Olivier Ntcham, the 24-year-old has yet to justify his £4.5m fee from Manchester City.
If Celtic want to leave a mark in Europe, Rodgers has to urge the club to spend the money neccessary. Two marquee arrivals could do the trick much better than opting for four or five cut-price players.
