Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says there’s a ‘very good chance’ Odsonne Edouard will stay at Parkhead this summer.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker has spent the season on loan with the Hoops and could make the deal permanent.
His chances of playing time at the Parc des Princes will be slim, but he’s been given plenty of minutes for the Scottish giants that may convince him to stay.
Since joining Celtic from PSG last summer, Edouard has contributed 15 goals in 28 games in all competitions, most recently netting a brace in a 5-0 win over Rangers as the Bhoys sealed the Scottish Premiership title.
The 20-year-old was linked with a loan move to Vitoria earlier in the month, but there’s been no progress on the initial rumour.
His form this season sees Rodgers keen to turn his loan deal permanent and the Celtic boss is confident he’ll land his man. Edouard said himself that he’s enjoyed his debut season in Scotland, but a permanent deal rests on PSG.
With Moussa Dembele’s future uncertain at Parkhead, the perennial champions can’t afford to lose any more attacking players. Thankfully, for supporters, the Celtic boss believes Edouard wants to stay.
Rodgers said, in quotes reported by Daily Record:
“A very, very good chance, hopefully. He wants to be here. It will be a case of hopefully getting an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. We will finish the season and then see where we are with that.
“He’s a brilliant player. I think some were questioning his ability when he first came but this is a player who was brought in for a reason.”
Edouard said on his future at Celtic:
“(The) most important thing is we have won the title today, the season is not over. We have the Scottish Cup final to play and hopefully after that there will be time for discussing options.
“I love this club and if the decision was up to me I would like to stay, but I can only do so much. Certainly, I am going to remember this all my life because it is my first title.”
