Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is being linked with the Arsenal managerial vacancy, with Arsene Wenger revealing he will stand down as manager at the end of the season, reports The S*n.
Rodgers has been linked with Arsenal in the past, as his penchant for attacking football made him an obvious candidate to step into Wenger’s shoes when the Frenchman eventually decided to leave.
The 45-year-old nearly won the Premier League title with Liverpool and is two games away from sealing back-to-back domestic trebles with Celtic. The Hoops’ majority shareholder Dermot Desmond even admitted Celtic wouldn’t stand in Rodgers’ way if Arsenal did make an approach for his services.
Nevertheless, the Northern Irish manager has made it clear that he wants a lengthy stay at Parkhead. He said in November that the poor job security in England has put him off a return, amid interest from West Ham United and former club Swansea City, but managing Arsenal might be too good to turn down.
In less than two seasons at Celtic, Rodgers has won one league title, one Scottish cup and two League Cups. His side are in the final of this season’s Scottish Cup against Motherwell next month and will seal a seventh consecutive league crown if they beat Hibernian on Saturday.
His experience in the Premier League – at Swansea and Liverpool – could convince Arsenal to take the gamble, but time will tell.
