Three destinations Mesut Ozil could consider moving to in the summer

Arsenal will be hoping to retain Mesut Ozil this summer and build the team around him to make them genuine title contenders in the Premier League next season.

However, as the German’s contract draws to a close, he may want to move away from the club in search of Champions League football next season.

A report by the Mirror suggest that he wants to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract, but the Gunners will want to avoid that at all cost.

Here we bring you three clubs the 28-year-old could move to if he decides to leave…

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has had a working relationship with Ozil when they were both at Real Madrid and the Europa League champions may like to have him among the ranks at Old Trafford next season. They have been awful in front of goal this season and will be looking to improve their attacking prowess. The United boss has always been partial to the 4-2-31 formation, but there have no viable options for the number ten role. Ozil would be able to play the position perfectly and his experience in the Premier League would give him a head start.

Paris Saint Germain

The French club will be very active in the transfer market this summer as they intend to add more depth to their team to improve the quality of their play in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. They won the double domestic cups during the 2016-17 season, but that isn’t good enough for a team of PSG’s caliber. Julian Draxler has impressed since his debut at the club in January and he has recently entreated Ozil to join him in Paris. The French club are yet to indicate any interest in the German but if he does not extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium, then PSG may likely want to have him.

As his work rate and influence in big matches has been a source of speculation, he may prefer to move away from the prying eyes of the English media to another league. In France, he would be served with the opportunity to compete for major honours, while PSG is a threat to all in the Champions League. This move would be an improvement for Ozil if he does decide to leave Arsenal in the summer.

Chinese Super League

After going through a ruinous season personally, there will be little interest from other clubs this summer, which will limit his options to a few clubs. Admittedly, his performance has declined a great deal and there has been some concern as to whether he still has what it takes to play at the top level. If he is looking for a move that would help him settle with his family, China is his best option. There have an emergence of European players in the Super League as of late and Ozil will definitely draw attention from Chinese clubs.

At the age of 28, he may think it too early to leave Europe, but the deal on offer in China may be too tempting for Ozil to resist. The league is growing in spades and top names in the game may likely be relocating to there this summer. If he does to choose to run his contract down, a move to Asia would be ideal.
