Arsenal are ready to offer Mesut Ozil a new bumper deal that would make him the highest paid player in the history of the club. Sources claimed the new contract is worth £200,000 per week, an excess of the £60,000 on his current contract which remains only 18 months.

Talks of the contract had earlier stalled and there  were rumours of a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United but talks are now in advanced stage between his representatives and Arsenal hierarchy to finalize the deal.

But is the German World Cup winner really worth that amount? Even though his performances has been worthwhile, but should Arsenal break the bank to keep the former Real Madrid player at the Emirates Stadium or can it be the fear of losing their playmaker to title rivals? Could Man United have offered him that amount?

No doubt, the 28-year-old has been in fine form so far this season and has already made oppositions to pay with his creavtivity and scintillating performances both in the Preemier League and the Champions League, which included a hat-trick against Ludogorets in the Europe elite competition.

With 7 goals and 3 assists in 14 appearances to his name already this season, he has been able to put off the lazy tag attached to his performance few months after his arrival three years ago.

He had the most assists, 19, in the league last season but he is being more selfish this season, rather putting the ball in the net more often.

Not even Thierry Henry who is the club all time lead scorer earned close to that amount. Ozil is a playmaker on his own but he is not anywhere near the status of one of the legends of the club yet.

He is presently the club record signing following his move from Real Madrid and that makes him the highest paid player in the club. But his potential new contract sounds somehow outrageous. He needs to contribute more to be worth of that price tag.
