Seven points at the top of table is not too big to be reduced or cut off. Chelsea are sitting, assumingly, comfortably at the top of the Premier League that even the absence of their star striker Diego Costa left no impact as they brushed aside Leicester City.

But the London club has not been active in the transfer window. While there is nothing wrong in being at peace when you see your team cruising it is equally important to consider potential downfalls.

Their weakness was exposed by Stoke City and Tottenham weeks back and considering the fact also that their title rivals are not resting on their oars and they are not too far behind.

No doubt their lack of European Football has been of great advantage to them as they have been lucky with injuries.

Whatever the outcome of Costa future at Chelsea, the Blues will be short of options upfront leaving them with Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian and no back up. Michy Batshuayi has failed to convince Antonio Conte and did not even start those matches where Costa was absent.

The midfield also is lacking back-up. With Oscar and John Obi Mikel departures – even though they hardly feature for Chelsea before leaving – Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have rotated to partner N’Golo Kante in the middle of the pack.

The wing-back areas have been crucial to Chelsea’s success this season. Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses have both turned in some impressive performances thus far, but Conte has no back-up in that area too.

The same could be said of the defence. Though they don’t need to panic buy, adding more firepower to the squad will a long way in helping in their title bid.
