Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has quashed speculations surrounding his future after announcing that he is staying put at Old Trafford for the rest of the Premier League season.

The England captain has been linked with a move to the Chinese Super League with news flooding the media that his agent Paul Stretford is in China to secure a club for him but Rooney has now claimed that he hoped to “play a full part” in United at least for the remainder of the season.

United boss Jose Mourinho also did little to quash talks of the 31-year-old possible exit, although securing a deal before the Chinese window closes on February 28 could have been impossible.

Stretford had flown to China to negotiate a deal for Rooney but it is not known which clubs he spoke. Two of the three possible destinations; Beijing Guoan and Jiangsu Suning have dismissed news of their interest in the English forward. Likewise, Tianjin Quanjian coach Fabio Cannavaro confirmed discussing with Rooney’s representatives but the deal fell through.

Rooney has won five Premier league titles, a Champions League, the FA Cup and the League cup as well as their record top scorer. He moved to Old Trafford from Everton in 2004 aged 18 years in a deal worth £27M.

United are currently sixth on the Premier League standings and are aiming to win the treble this season. They have reached the last 16 of the Europa League and will face Southampton in the EFL cup final on Sunday before the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea on March 13.
