Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have had a very quiet summer transfer window which is not so like the club, but it’s about to get very interesting. So far this season, the Old Trafford club have only signed Victor Lindelof from Portuguese side Benfica in a £30.75 million deal and now Mourinho is edging closer to further strengthening his squad.
Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, Monaco’s Fabinho and Chelsea’s Nemanja Magic have all been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and could yet arrive.
However, the Red Devils fans are only interested in two players at the moment in the form of Real Madrid and Spanish international Alvaro Morata and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Both players are prime targets for the former Chelsea boss as he seeks to find a long-time replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Morata favorite to arrive this summer.
It was previously reported that the former Juventus striker had agreed to join Manchester United and that only a transfer fee needed to be negotiated with Real Madrid, but it hasn’t quite been that simple.
The Old Trafford supporters are growing frustrated as a result, but their frustration turned into joyous moment on Wednesday night when huge updates emerged according to Marca and the Daily Mail.
The Spanish source – Marca – claimed Morata is “one step” closer to becoming United player after Mourinho submit an impressive bid of €75 million – just €5m short of Real’s asking price.
An agreement is close – very close, in fact the Spanish publication said Morata could complete his move to Manchester in the “coming hours” depending on how negotiations progress.
So, that was all about Morata moving to Old Trafford, but what about Lukaku?
Daily Mail’s Matt Lawson reports that the Red Devils are “closing in” on a record-smashing £100 million move for the Belgian international after hijacking Chelsea’s move for him.
I know this might sound weird, but it’s true! The Special One is in negotiations to sign Morata and Lukaku.
Whether or not the Portuguese gaffer who had worked with both players – at Real Madrid with Morata and Chelsea with Lukaku – genuinely intends on bringing the duo to the Theatre of Dreams remains unclear, but these reports have sent United fans into serious meltdown.
Some believe there’s a chance of having them both this summer, while others doesn’t see the report as something genuine.
See how some react on Twitter to Marc’s and the Mail’s exciting reports.
Morata (big game player) and Lukaku (flat track bully) is a perfectly complimented duo if we get both. #MUFC

Lukaku and Morata both would be unreal. But doubt. £170m spending on strikers. https://t.co/9CUb6Rg7Lb

Lukaku was the striker i wanted before Morata's name was even mentioned, having said that i'd love them both to come

Morata and Lukaku are relatively young, 8-10years + from both. What an investment! What a future! @ManUtd #MUFC

Our conclusion is that United signing Morata and Lukaku is highly unlikely, but we should note this is Jose Mourinho we’re talking about here. The Portuguese man has throughout his managerial career that he isn’t afraid to splash the cash – nor take a risk. Anything could happen.
