As Louis Van Gaal Retires Here Are the Players He Axed At Old Trafford

Former Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has drawn the curtain on his 26 years managerial career.

The 65-year-old former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach made the announcement on Monday after receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Dutch government, citing family issues as the reason for his retirement.

Van Gaal was appointed United coach in the summer of 2014 on a three-year contract but was sacked after two seasons in charge following series of poor performances and results. His sack came just hours after winning the FA Cup last season and was replaced by Jose Mourinho.

During his spell at Man United he failed to win over the fans with his tactics and oversaw the sale of many talented and first team players of the club though he also gave lots of young players their debut.

We take at some of the players axed by the former Netherland coach. The Dutch sold a team during his time at Old Trafford giving one reason or the other.

Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard was sold to West Brom in the summer of 2015; Rafael Da Silva enjoyed a stellar season during Sir Alex Ferguson last campaign but was shipped out by Van Gaal whom he claimed seems to dislike him.

Jonny Evans 11 year’s relationship with United ended during Van Gaal spell as the Northern Ireland defender moved to West Brom. Nemanja Vidic left for, after eight trophy laden years at United, for Inter Milan in 2014 and spent two years before he retired.

Patrice Evra moved to Juventus, Luis Nani was loaned to Sporting Lisbon before he as eventually sold to Fernabache a year later. Shinji Kagawa returned to Borussia Dortmund, Angel Di Maria bought by David Moyes failed to live up to expectations and was sold to Paris Saint Germain.

Danny Welbeck was sold to Arsenal after van Gaal claimed he is below standard, Javier Hernandez moved to Bayern Leverkusen and Robin Van Persie was sold to Fernabache after series of injury and loss of form.
