Klopp’s Team Better than Rodger’s Team with Suarez

Jurgen Klopp is really doing a great job at Liverpool and this has called for some comparisons between the current Liverpool team and the 2013/2014 squad that almost won the Premier League but missed out on it on the final day of the season to Manchester City after topping the table till the final weeks of that season.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss who replaced Brendan Rodger last year October guided them to eighth place finish last season but has been able to turn them to a title contender once again.

The Red Devils scored a whopping over 100 league goals with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge forming a formidable partnership that terrorized the defence and had 52 league goals between them in 2014.

And this season, they have been flying high. Leapfrogging from the fourth position to the top of the table after their 6-1 wallowing of Watford has put them on the lips of everyone as favourite for the title, though Klopp has tried to play down the title talk and the comparison obviously to avoid distraction.

However, it won’t be an over-statement to say this Liverpool class looks better than Rodger’s class of 2013/2014. Rodger’s team were more reliance on Sturridge and Suarez but this season Klopp’s team already have 10 different scorers in the league. At this stage in 2013, only five players had scored for the Red Devils; Sturridge, Suarez, Victor Moses, Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel.

Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino already have 10 between them this season. Both have scored six goals each as well as the new boy from Southampton Saido Mane.

The win over Watford made it the fifth time they have scored four or more goals in league game and continuing at that rate would see them score four or more goals in 17 matches, a feat achieved by the 2014 class in 11 games.
