According to reports, Arsenal have not discussed a new contract with attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil since February.
The Germany international is out of contract at the end of the season, like fellow star man Alexis Sanchez, and several reports have claimed talks have not been productive in recent months.
However, according to Sport Bild, no negotiations have begun since February, with the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s future in doubt at the time.
The north London outfit were in danger of failing to nail a spot in the Champions League and ultimately finished fifth, instead reaching qualified for the Europa League.
A contract worth a huge €9m-a-season had been discussed, but French manager was reportedly in contact with French sides Paris Saint-Germain.
The Germany World Cup winner is known to be an admirer of Wenger and did not want to sign a new contract without assurances over the future of the former Monaco boss.
The report went on claiming talks of a new contract worth €280,000-a-week is not true, while it is unknown when talks will be had over the future of the former Real Madrid playmaker.
While Ozil’s quality is undeniable, becoming renowned for his ability to assist teammates, the German work rate and ability to perform in big matches have come in for criticism.
He managed to score eight goals and create nine assists for his team-mates in 33 Premier League appearances last season but the ex-Werder Bremen is yet to make an attacking contribution this season.
With his future and that of Sanchez unclear, the Gunners could see the duo leave for free at the end of the season after spending a total of £74.2m on the two attackers.
However, according to German outlet Sport Bild via the Manchester Evening News, it claimed Ozil has no interest in remaining at Arsenal when his contract expires next summer and is keen to reunite with former and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Mesut Ozil, who played under Mourinho during their stint together at Real Madrid, could join the Red Devils for free at the end of the season if he does sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
The 28-year-old playmaker was the subject of strong speculation throughout last season, and Wenger recently revealed that rather then being close to finally tying him down to new terms, contract talks have slowed, according to Goal.
