Arsenal Title Hope Shattered

Could it be that the “usual” November slips have been shifted to December as Arsenal title hopes are left in tatters after their second consecutive loss within a week. The Gunners squandered a first half lead to lose 1-2 to Man City at the Etihad Stadium.

The North London club have not tasted Premier League glory in the last 12 seasons and are hoping to end that this season but obviously they would only end up with a place in the top four as their custom is.

They have now lost their last two matches and three this season from winning position. Their resilience and strength mentality are questionable after the two defeats. Mesut Ozil who has been in the middle of a lucrative contract offer was ineffective and found wanting in those two matches, making one to wonder if he actually deserves the wage he is demanding.

They lost by the same scoreline to Everton on Tuesday after taking the lead and this loss will now leave them in the fourth place, a point above Tottenham who defeated Burnley also on Sunday.

The win will relieve some pressure on City manager Pep Guardiola and has taken them up to second in the table. The Sky Blues had lost two consecutive games against Chelsea and Leicester City, conceding seven goals in the process before they started a revival of their title hopes with a win over Watford in the midweek.

Arsenal had led from Theo Walcott goal in the fifth minutes as they look to put Everton loss behind them but like that match, Man City equalized through Leroy Sane’s effort, just two minutes after restart and the winner from Raheem Sterling 19 minutes from time completed the comeback.

Arsene Wenger cut a frustrating figure at the final whistle and had bemoaned the quality of the match officiating after claiming that both City goals should have been ruled out for offside.

The Gunners have only won one of their matches against the top six, losing two and drawing two.
