Ahmed Musa: Leicester City striker arrested on suspicion of beating wife

Leicester City

Leicester City’s and Nigerian international striker Ahmed Musa, 24, was detained when police swooped on his luxury home at 1am.

The 24-year-old was taken to a police station where he was question on suspicion activity of common assault.

Prior to when getting arrest, Musa had posted a bizarre message on his Facebook page which attracts thousands of fans.

He shared a picture of a donkey. It was captioned: “Tag the first person who comes into your mind when you look at a donkey.’’

Officers first tried to arrest Musa on Tuesday evening unaware Leicester were playing a home match against Sunderland.

They knocked at the doors of surrounding properties trying to find the player.

A source said: “Surely the most obvious place to look for a Leicester City player during a home game is at the ground.’’

Police went back to the property in the early hours yesterday after Musa had returned.

Officers declined to give further details about the allegation. On his Facebook page the 5ft 7in striker names his wife as Jamila.

The couple, who appear devout Muslims, have a four-year-old son and 20-month-old daughter and Musa often posts family pictures.

Musa has played just 14 minutes since Craig Shakespeare replaced sacked Claudio Ranieri as boss.

According to unconfirmed reports from Nigeria, via Daily Star, Musa also married a second wife as is legal under Islamic Law. He signed for the Foxes from CSKA Moscow following Leicester’s shock last season Premier League triumph last season and was their record signing until the acquisition of Algerian international Islam Slimani.

Slimani moved to the King Power Stadium from Sporting Club de Portugal on the last day of the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £28m.

England striker and Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker once tweeted: “Defend Claudio to the end after last season but his faith in Musa is baffling. Now I’ve said it, please prove me wrong.’’

A police spokesman said a 24-year-old man was released yesterday with no further action.

Last night Leicester City said Musa will be quizzed about a “disturbance” when he returns to training tomorrow.

A club spokesman said: “We are aware that Ahmed Musa has today cooperated with a police inquiry relating to a disturbance in the early hours of this morning.

“The inquiry has since been closed and no further action is to be taken.

“We see no reason for formal action internally, though Ahmed will be given the opportunity to discuss the matter with football management when the squad returns.”
